Welcome to OCRConvert. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the OCRConvert.com website and related services, including our free online OCR (optical character recognition) tool and any API we offer (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of the Service

OCRConvert provides a free online service that converts documents and images (e.g. PDF, JPG, PNG) into editable or searchable text. You may receive the result as plain text (TXT). The Service may be used without creating an account. We may impose limits on file size, number of files per request, and rate of use, and we may change these limits at any time. The Service is provided "as is" and we do not guarantee availability, accuracy, or uninterrupted access.

2. Eligibility and Acceptance

You must be at least 16 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements and that you will use the Service only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

3. Your Content and File Handling

3.1 Ownership and Responsibility

You retain ownership of the files you upload ("User Files") and the converted output ("Converted Files") you receive. You are solely responsible for the content of your User Files and for ensuring that you have all rights necessary to upload, process, and use that content. OCRConvert does not monitor or review the content of User Files. We are not responsible for the accuracy, legality, or appropriateness of your content or of the OCR output.

3.2 Processing and Deletion

User Files and Converted Files are processed on our servers and are automatically deleted after conversion. We do not retain them for longer than necessary to complete the conversion and deliver the result. We do not use your file content for other purposes or sell it to third parties. Because files are deleted automatically, you are responsible for downloading and saving any Converted Files you need. We are not responsible for any failure to convert a file, to store a file, or for the deletion or loss of any User File or Converted File.

3.3 Sensitive and Confidential Data

Do not upload documents containing highly sensitive or confidential information (e.g. passwords, financial account numbers, health records) unless you accept the risks. We cannot be held responsible for the security or handling of such data. You use the Service at your own risk.

4. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to upload, transmit, or promote any content or material that:

  • Is illegal, harmful, fraudulent, or violates any applicable law or regulation.
  • Infringes or violates the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of others.
  • Is defamatory, obscene, pornographic, harassing, or promotes violence, hatred, or discrimination.
  • Exploits or endangers minors in any way, including child sexual abuse material.
  • Contains malware, viruses, or other harmful code, or is used to interfere with or disrupt the Service or others' use of it.
  • Is used to circumvent any usage limits, security measures, or access controls.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in conduct that harms the Service or other users.

5. API Use

If we make an API available, use of the API is subject to these Terms and to any additional API documentation, rate limits, and authentication requirements we provide. You may not use the API in a manner that overloads our systems or that violates these Terms or applicable law. We may change or discontinue the API at any time.

6. Intellectual Property and Copyright

Unauthorized copying, modification, distribution, or public display of copyrighted work is prohibited. You may not use the Service to infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of others. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please contact us with details so we can address it in accordance with applicable law (e.g. DMCA in the United States). You are solely liable for any infringement arising from your use of the Service.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of those sites or services. Links do not imply endorsement. You access third-party sites at your own risk.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OCRCONVERT DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT RESULTS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE. YOU USE THE SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OCRCONVERT AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, REVENUE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE GREATER OF ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD $100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES; IN SUCH CASES, THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT FULLY APPLY TO YOU.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless OCRConvert and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights or applicable law.

11. Changes to the Service and These Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service or any part of it at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms on this page and update the "Effective date" above. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the new Terms, you must stop using the Service.

12. General

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and OCRConvert regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce any right does not waive that right. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them without restriction. These Terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights.
